Francis L. Morse, age 103, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016. He was born in Cassopolis, MI, on September 20, 1912, the son of the late Carl and Sarah (Mack) Morse. Francis was an honest, ethical, and faithful man. He believed in the power of education and in 1950 earned a Bachelor Degree in Physics from WMU; graduating Magna Cum Laude and receiving a Physics Prize. He always had a deep passion for radio broadcasting, and electrical engineering. He loved spending time on the Ham Radio, where he would converse with people all around the world, usually using Morse code. He was employed at the Fetzer Broadcasting Company as a technician for WKZO, and later became the Chief Engineer for the station. He was also a long time member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Francis had a love for Latin American culture. He taught himself to speak Spanish, enjoyed Latin American music, and made many trips to visit South American countries. He resided at Heritage Community for over 20 years, where he enjoyed repairing his neighbors' TV's, radios, and other electronic appliances. Francis also had a strong faith in the Lord, and was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo. When not working he enjoyed reading science magazines, music, playing games and helping others. Above all, Francis knew the value of family. He loved spending time with his sons, and later his grandchildren. He leaves them with the legacy of a life well lived, and he will be missed. On May 1, 1943 he married his first wife Dorothy (Adams) Morse who preceded him in passing on June 8, 1993. On January 7, 1994 he married Mildred (Snow) Morse who preceded him in passing on February 27, 2006. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Bruce (Donna) Morse, and Rolland (Margy Hunter) Morse; five grandchildren, Erin (Brian Mansberger) Morse, Colin (Emily) Stuart-Morse, Roxanna (Orlando Obregon) Morse, Brighid Morse and Andreea Hunter; two great grandchildren, Sabine and Rolando; many nieces, nephews, and a cousin. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007, on Saturday, February 6, 2016, beginning at 11:00 AM. A memorial visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 5, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Heritage Community Center or the Alzheimer's Association , c/o of the funeral home.
