Francis "Frank" Edward Wallace, age 86, of Kalamazoo passed away May 26, 2023. He was born March 20, 1937 in Syracuse, New York to the late Frank and Betty (Wright) Wallace.
Frank served three years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. He was a member of the Irish American Club and the VFW. Frank worked at GM as a pipe fitter for 30 years.
Frank became a runner in his mid-forties and completed many marathons, including the Boston and New York City Marathons. He was a 5 a.m. regular at the Borgess Health Club for many years and continued this into his 80s.
Frank embraced his Irish heritage, had a love of Irish music, and enjoyed travel to Ireland on two occasions. He also enjoyed wine tasting tours and was an avid reader.
Frank and Myrna recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. He was a devoted family man with an excellent sense of humor. He was a good listener and was able to make a connection with anyone he met. Friends would say, "Our life is better for having known him."
Frank was preceded in death by: his son, Edward Wallace (Sandy).
He is survived by: His wife Myrna (Rose) Wallace, his children Tom Wallace (Nancy), Kate Smith-Haas (Jim), John Wallace, and his eight grandchildren Alana, Chris (Britta), Nick, Sean (Lacy), Jake (Samantha), Erin (Lyal), Trevor (Shelby), Emily (Dan), and great grandchildren Kian, Alexis, Jack, Oliver, Finnegan, Karson, Ronin, and Elijah and his sister Marietta Rowe.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 1 at 11:00am at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009, where family will greet friends one hour prior from 10-11:00am. Private interment will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
