Lang, Flossie Kalamazoo, Michigan Flossie Mae Lang, age 94, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2022. Flossie was born in 1927 in Ewing, VA the youngest of 5 children to the late James and Mossie McAfee. She moved to Kalamazoo when she was 17, where she met and married her loving and devoted husband of 70 years, Elton Travis Lang, who predeceased her in 2018. In those early years of living in Michigan, Flossie worked at a papermill and then later part-time at Western Michigan University. She lived in Parchment for over 30 years. Flossie was a devoted mother and grandmother, and spent hundreds of hours babysitting and watching her grandchildren's endless sports games. She loved to cook and bake, and often shared a meal with family or friends, or anyone who might be sick or need a helping hand. After retirement, Flossie spent over 30 years wintering in Ft. Myers, FL with her husband where they enjoyed time with family and friends and taking lots of walks on the beach. They also loved to travel, with numerous trips and adventures to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. They spent their summers at the lake at Kline's Resort where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends, and taking their grandchildren on their pontoon boat. Flossie moved to Friendship Village in 2019, where she met many dear friends and volunteered in the resale shop when she was able. Flossie was a longtime member of The Christian Church D.O.C. and then later a member of Vicksburg United Methodist Church. Her kind servant's heart was always at work helping in any way she could. Flossie loved her family and grandchildren, who all knew how special they were to her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol & Kevin Burke of Kalamazoo; and three precious grandchildren, Travis Burke of Kalamazoo, MI; Tyler Burke of Phoenix, AZ, and Madison (Luke) Hessler of Traverse City, MI, as well as many very special nieces and nephews. Flossie was preceded in death by her dear husband, Elton Travis, her beloved son, Keith Lang, and her brothers and sisters, Glen McAfee, Leslie McAfee, Virginia Kilgore and Emmet McAfee. The family would like to thank the many wonderful friends and family who were so faithful to call, visit and send cards; her dear friends Alene Markillie and Pat Cast, who spent numerous hours reading the Bible with Flossie, bringing in lunch, and encouraging her; Centrica Care Navigators (Hospice); and all the wonderful nurses and staff at Friendship Village who treated her like family. A Memorial will take place on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Vicksburg United Methodist Church, 217 S. Main Street, Vicksburg, MI, with visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., followed by a light luncheon and fellowship time. A private burial will take place at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vicksburg United Methodist Church or Friendship Village of Kalamazoo.
