Fern Chapman

Chapman, Fern of Portage Fern Bertha Chapman, age 94, passed away March 17, 2017 in Kalamazoo. Fern was born March 7, 1923 in Lee Township, MI, the daughter of John and Louise (Pagel) Sommer. On November 1, 1939 she was united in marriage to Raymond H. Chapman, who preceded her in death on May 26, 2004. She was also preceded by her parents, her siblings, two grandsons, and by her son and daughter-in-law Terry & Sharon Chapman. Surviving are her sons Jim & Susie Chapman and Gary & Connie Chapman; a daughter-in-law Tina; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other special family and friends. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00AM on Wednesday, March 22nd at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church (9420 Portage Rd.) where a service to celebrate her life will begin at 11:00AM Wednesday. A private burial will take place on Thursday in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in Fern's memory may be directed to the Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
