Evelyn passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at her home in Otsego. She was born November 1, 1927 in Otsego the daughter of John and Jennie (Arendsen) Boerman. Evelyn was a 1944 Otsego High School graduate and lifelong resident of the area. Evelyn had worked at Woolworth and Upjohn and later owned and operated Klein's Variety in Kalamazoo with her husband for 35 years. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, photography, birdwatching, stamp collecting and playing games. Evelyn loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their sporting events. She also enjoyed wintering in Florida. Evelyn was a member of the Martin Reformed Church and charter member of Haven Reformed Church in Kalamazoo. In 1948 at Martin Reformed Church she married George Klein and they enjoyed 72 years together. Surviving are her husband, George; her children, Judy (Mark) McMurray of Alamo, Patty (Gary Lakeman)Sutka of Otsego, Kathy (John Ness) Swinehart of Allegan and Paul Klein of Otsego; grandchildren, Scott McMurray, Jessica (Bryan) Cranson, Drew (Jenna) Kastran; Michael and Andrew Swinehart and Derek and Jared Klein; 4 great-grandchildren, Calista and Gabriella Cranson and Brooke and Colin Kastran; sister, Geraldine Berner; sister-in-law, Betty Welch along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Bob Sutka and brothers, Bob and Ken Boerman. Friends may visit with Evelyn's family from 4-7 PM, Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the Martin Reformed Church with Pastor Mark Heijerman officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later time at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. Contributions in memory of Evelyn may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice or the Martin Reformed Church.
