Rose, Ernest C. "Ernie" Portage Passed away Monday, July 11, 2022. Ernie was born December 4, 1932 in Kalamazoo the son of Charles and Eleanor (House) Rose. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a Deputy with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department for 35 years, retiring as a Sergeant. Ernie was also a part of the Dive and Recovery Team for several years with the department as well. Ernie was a pilot, owning his own airplane and enjoyed flying RC airplanes. He enjoyed hunting and was a referee for 20 years doing football, basketball, and tennis. On August 18, 1955 he was united in marriage to his loving wife of 66 years, Loretta (Cleem) who survives. Also surviving are his children, Larry Rose, Debora (Sherman) Kersten; 2 grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Kersten, Keisha Kersten; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Jackson, Johnathan, and Kairi; brother, Edward "Burt" Rose; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 10:00-11:00am Tuesday, July 19 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson Blvd where funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
