Elizabeth Esther (Weaver) Beam passed away on April 29, 2024 at the age of 103.

Elizabeth (Liz) was born on December 26, 1920 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was the only child of Claire and Glen Weaver of Lawrence, Michigan. She spent much of her life in Lawton, Michigan where she and her husband, Bob, raised their five children. She and Bob moved to Tryon, North Carolina in 1987 and enjoyed their retirement years in the warmer climate.

Elizabeth married Robert M. Beam, Sr. on October 24, 1942 in Paw Paw, Michigan at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 60 years.

Liz pursued an education and attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Liz retired from the Kalamazoo County Health Department in 1986.

Liz was a former Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Paw Paw, Michigan. She belonged to the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon, North Carolina and the DaffyJills Garden Club, also of Tryon. Liz was very active in the daily activities of the White Oak retirement community, the St. Luke's Thrift Shop and the Hospice of The Carolinas. She greatly enjoyed the company of the many friends she made through those connections.

Her passions were gardening (she was especially fond of orchids), reading and playing bridge with her buddies.

Elizabeth is survived by her five children: Robert M. Beam, Jr. (Judi) of Kalamazoo, MI; Elizabeth (Betsy) Kent (Eric, Sr.) of Schoolcraft, MI; John W. Beam, Sr. (Sherri) of Reed City, MI; Thomas W. Beam (Julie) of Paw Paw, MI; and Michael S. Beam (Adele) of Kalamazoo, MI. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, as well as many special friends and extended family.

Liz was predeceased by her parents, husband, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan on July 27, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. Fellowship and luncheon following the service. A private interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lawton, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, Liz has requested donations to Hospice of your choice.

The family wishes to thank all of Elizabeth's wonderful and supportive friends and caregivers.
