Edward Subacz

Subacz, Edward Kalamazoo, MI Edward "Ed" Subacz passed away August 24, 2022, at Centrica Care Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo. He was born August 29, 1927, in Grand Rapids, MI son of the late Kazimierz "Charles" and Mary (Labiotka) Subacz. Ed served in the US Navy during WW II on aircraft carriers, USS Boxer and USS Antietam, Attack Squadron 15-Able. After the war Ed worked at Kalamazoo Stove Company and KVP Sutherland Paper Company. In 1965 he bought the Gem Shoe Repair Shop and changed the name to Ed's Shoe Repair. He worked there with his wife Juanita and son James until he sold it to James in 1990. Ed continued to work at the shop and retired in 2002. Ed was an avid bowler in Kalamazoo for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and anything outdoors where he could enjoy nature. He also was a fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines Football. On December 1, 1951, Ed married the former Juanita Cole who preceded him in death on March 3, 2002. He is survived by his children Juanita (Eugene) Erdos, and Roger (Chris) Subacz, James (Connie) Subacz; grandchildren, Eugene (Michelle) Erdos, Scott Erdos, Ben Subacz, Jon Subacz, Elise Subacz, Ashley (James) Russell and Andrew (Emilee) Subacz. Great Grandchildren Summer Erdos, Sierra Erdos, Spencer Erdos, Abbey Subacz, Bennett Subacz and Allison Russell. Cremation has taken place. A gathering to celebrate Ed's life will be held 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3531, 11811 Shaver Road, Schoolcraft, MI 49087. Private inurnment services with military honors will take place in Fort Custer National Cemetery.
