Edward James Kalamazoo, Michigan Edward James Annen, Jr., age 70 of Kalamazoo, died under hospice care on July 28, 2021. He was born on January 27, 1951, in Kalamazoo, the son of Edward Annen, Sr. and Cora (VanKlaveren) Annen. Ed was a 1969 graduate of Loy Norrix High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree cum laude from the University of Michigan, his Juris Doctor cum laude from Wayne State University, and was certified by the Hague Academy of International Law. Ed served five terms as Mayor of the City of Kalamazoo between 1975-1995. He also served as an attorney in his own practice since 1980. Ed was a member of the Michigan Bar Association, the Kalamazoo City Bar Association, and sat on the Board of Directors of the Softball Little League World Series and Milwood Little League. He was a dedicated member of Second Reformed Church. On July 30, 1999, he married Jacquelyn Boender DeHaan. His family also includes his children: Ed (Holly) Annen III, Kelli (Dave) Jonas, and Stephanie (Ryan) Formsma; his grandchildren: Davis and Sydney Formsma, James, Luke, and Audrey Annen, and Marek Jonas; and his sister June (Richard) Shockley. Friends may visit with his family on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A memorial service will be held at Second Reformed Church, 2323 Stadium Dr, Kalamazoo, on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kevin Hart officiating.
