Edna Bouman, age 88, of Alamo Township, MI was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus, Monday, February 12, 2018 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born March 28, 1929 in Vriesland, MI, the daughter of Edward and Jennie (VanderVelde) Kroodsma. Edna enjoyed playing yard games with her family, spending time at the cottage on the Muskegon River and playing scrabble. Family and faith were Edna's passion. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Zeeland and enjoyed being in the choir. She was kind hearted and loved helping others and often volunteered at the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Though of modest means she shared all she had with those in need. 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Matthew 25:40. Surviving are her children, Leigh (Nate) Greene of Kalamazoo, Tom (Joan) Bouman of Holland, Karen Ciarmello of Maryland and Mark (Julie) Bouman of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Christopher, Philip, Quinton and Alexandra; 4 great-grandchildren; caregiver and friend, Stan Massey; sister, Esther Raterink and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her former husband, David and by her sister, Mildred. Friends may visit with Edna's family starting at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., with Ron Lytle officiating. Private family burial will take place at Alamo Center Cemetery, Alamo Township at a later time. Contributions in memory of Edna may be made to the Alamo Nursing Home. The family would like to thank the staff at the Alamo Nursing Home and the acute care floor at Bronson Hospital for their superior care.
