Dr. Merrill E. Speeter

Passed away on December 2, 2006 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Merrill was born on March 20, 1918 in Eyota, MN the son of Harold J. and Rose M. (Pouliot) Speeter. He married Mildred Budde who preceded him in death on December 6, 2003. Merrill was a Research Chemist and Manager of the Biochemistry Department for the Upjohn Company, retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, National Sigma XI, American Chemical Society, Alpha Chi Sigma Society, the American Association Advancement of Science and the American Orchid Society and Black River Orchid Society. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Housing Resources Incorporated (HRI). Merrill is survived by five children, John R. (Kathryn) Speeter of Scotts, MI, William (Debbera) Speeter of Galesburg, MI, Virginia (Frank) Speeter-Wippel of Paw Paw, Robert (Cynthia) Speeter of Indian River, MI and Thomas (Lorraine) Speeter of San Ramon, CA; five grandchildren, a brother, Robert (Lucille) Speeter of Minneapolis, MN; and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 from 10 - 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre, Portage,MI where a Memorial Mass will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Portage Public Library or Housing Resources Incorporated (HRI).
