Douglas Gutshall

Gutshall, Douglas P. Kalamazoo, Michigan Douglas P. Gutshall, age 73 of Kalamazoo, died from a rare form of meningitis on September 23, 2020, with family by his side at Rose Arbor Hospice Home. He was born December 4, 1946, in St. Johns, Michigan, the son of Frederick & Willene (Estes) Gutshall. Doug was a 1964 graduate of Ovid High School. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Worms, Germany from March of 1969 – March 1971. Doug received his Bachelor's Degree from Western Michigan University. For 15 years, he was the manager at Firestone in Kalamazoo, and later retired in 2007 as a supervisor from Summit Polymers. On April 27, 1968, Doug married his best friend, Karen Cross, and they shared a very blessed 52 years together. His greatest joys were spending time with his family, camping, boating and traveling. After retirement, Doug and Karen enjoyed wintering in Naples, Florida. His family includes his wife Karen Gutshall; their son Scott (Nicole) Gutshall; their grandchildren: Brielyn and Maya Gutshall and Joshua (Alexis) Conley; his brother David (Helen) Gutshall, and several nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents "Fred" & "Billy" Gutshall. A Memorial Service will be held for Doug at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., on September 29, 2020, at Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Dan Johnson will be officiating. A private graveside service will be held with military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
