Dorothy Marusek

Dorothy A. Portage Went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 14, 2021. Dorothy was born July 1, 1921 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Charles and Cornelia (VanKruiningen) Matthies. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School in 1940. On November 27, 1943 she was united in marriage to Chester Marusek. Dorothy and Chester built their home with the war bonds that she earned working during World War II making airplane parts at Eaton Corp. Dorothy graduated from KVCC in 2007 Phi Theta Kappa. She was a lifetime artist and an accomplished archer, golfer, and geologist. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester on July 7, 2005; a brother, William Matthies; and a grandson, Todd Bond. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Christine Stephens (Philip Balsley), Susan (Randy) Rodenhaver; brothers and sister, Wallace (Charlyn) Matthies, John (Judith) Kubeck, Virginia (Chuey) Lum; several nieces and nephews; 6 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Friends may meet the family from 10:00-11:00am Monday, December 20 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 411 E. Centre, Portage, MI 49002 where funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Nature Center.
