Dorotha Hitchcock

Hitchcock , Dorotha Ellen Hillsdale, MI Dorotha Ellen (Rosser) Hitchcock of Hillsdale (formerly of Portage, Michigan) passed away on October 13, 2022 at Drew's Country Living of Hillsdale, Michigan. Dorotha was affectionately known as DorEl. She was born on a farm near Perry, Michigan on September 27, 1931, to Mose and Dorothy (Wells) Rosser. DorEl went to one room school near the farm and then graduated from Perry High School in 1950 as salutatorian of her class. She then went on to nursing school and graduated from Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 with her R. N. She was a loving, caring nurse for 43 years until her retirement in 1996, working in hospitals, as a visiting nurse in homes, volunteering as a youth camp nurse, Director of Nursing for Senior Citizens Fund in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and as a Red Cross nurse. DorEl loved reading (averaging 50 books a year in her in her prime) and group Bible Study (where she was active for 20 years). She enjoyed many activities with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved making soup, baking cookies, and traveled extensively. Besides trips around the USA, DorEl traveled to Israel, Austria and Germany and she made 4 trips to Thailand to visit and work with her missionary sister. DorEl is survived by three sisters Doris Koehn of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Cindy (Robert) Dykhouse of Osseo, Michigan, Rachel (Michael) McCarty of Durand, Michigan and one brother David (Evie) Rosser of Omaha, Nebraska. She is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews, four step-children and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. DorEl was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her husband Ben Hitchcock, who died in 1983. At DorEl's request cremation has taken place and a memorial service honoring the life of Dorotha Ellen Hitchcock will be held on October 22, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hillsdale Church of the Nazarene located at 208 N. West Street, Hillsdale, Michigan 49242 a visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 A.M until the time of the service.
