Donna passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 exactly two weeks after her 89th birthday at the Alamo Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Kalamazoo, MI. Donna battled both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease for the past five years. Donna, the daughter of Harold and Helen (Silcox) Reed, was born in Augusta, MI on October 14, 1931; she was a lifetime area resident and was a 1949 graduate of Richland High School. She worked as a secretary for Consumer Power Company in Kalamazoo, MI for two years, also served as a secretary for New York Air Brake in Galesburg, MI for almost 25 years and lastly served as an employee of Appraisal & Associates for roughly 12 years before retiring in 1994. Donna loved sports and was a very gifted athlete herself by playing several years in a traveling fast pitch softball league. She also played several years in a traveling tennis league out of the West Hills Tennis Club; participated in bowling leagues for several years and also found time to play golf well in to her early 80s. Donna and Don thoroughly enjoyed their Cruise Ship adventures abroad; loved music and dancing together. Donna was united in marriage to Donald R. Grubius in Zion Lutheran Church, Kalamazoo on August 31, 1950. Surviving is her husband of 70+ years, Don; her sister, Patsy (Reed) LeBlanc; her daughter-in-law, Ellen Grubius; her son, Randy L. (Paula) Grubius of Kalamazoo; five precious grandchildren, Kristen L. (Troy) Buerger, Brian R. (Christy) Grubius, Emily A. (Jon) Lawrence, Adam C. (Lauren) Grubius and Carrie E. (Wesley) Trimpe and six great grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Dennis W. Grubius on October 25, 1999; four sisters and two brothers. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Donna's family will greet friends on Wednesday, November 4th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Farley, Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89) Richland, MI 49083. Twenty four people will be allowed at one time inside the funeral home and rotated out; masks are required and social distancing will be maintained. The Graveside Service to celebrate Donna's life will be held on Wednesday November 4th at 2:00 p.m. in Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland (next door to the funeral home) with the Rev. Nathaniel T. Timmermann, Pastor of Peace Lutheran Church of Otsego, MI, officiating.
