Donald Kemp

Donald Lewis Kemp, age 85, of Kalamazoo went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 29, 2021. He was born February 8, 1936 in Kalamazoo to the late Forrest "Hub" and Katherine (Schrier) Kemp. Don was a lifelong Kalamazoo resident. He was a workhorse and a generous caregiver. He was first employed at Gibson Guitars and worked much of his life with Eckrich, retiring after 30+ years of service with them. After his father's passing, he became his mother's primary caregiver until her passing in 2005. He was a long-time member of Calvary Bible Church and often volunteered on their building projects, as well as many other aspects of their ministry. Don was an excellent bowler and collected boxes of trophies during his time playing in leagues. He especially enjoyed watching any sports he could find on TV-football, baseball, boxing, and basketball, his main sources of entertainment. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gene Kemp; and brother-in-law, William Murray. He is survived by his siblings, Helen Murray and Paul (Evelyn) Kemp of Kalamazoo, and Dale (Dorothy) Kemp of Plant City, FL; sister-in-law, Charlotte Kemp of Newnan, GA; five nieces; one nephew; and many cousins. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:00am at Calvary Bible Church, 855 S Drake Rd, Kalamazoo, where the family will greet friends one hour prior from 10-11:00am. Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South will take place after services at the church. Donations in Don's memory may be made to Calvary Bible Church Mission Fund or Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
