Donald James Smith, age 84, of Naples, Florida formerly of Portage, MI passed away April 22, 2024. He was born October 20, 1939, in Dayton, Pennsylvania to the late James Robert and Gladys Catherine (Schrecengost) Smith.

Don was a resident of Portage for over 60 years before making a final move to Naples, Florida. He worked for General Motors for 35 years. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Portage. He was a golfer and enjoyed woodworking.

Don was very active in freemasonry. He was a member of Kalamazoo-Anchor Lodge #22 and was a 33rd Degree Mason, awarded by the Scottish Rite. He was also involved with the Shriners and rode with a motorcycle unit during parades. Don volunteered with Shriners Hospitals for Children as a driver to assist patients in need of transportation.

Don is survived by his wife, Marjorie Louise (Sowers) Smith; son, Kevin (Shauna) Smith of Marion, Indiana; daughter, Sherri (Bryan) Overstreet of Wheatfield, Indiana; grandchildren, Trevor (Paige) Overstreet and Morgan Overstreet; great-grandchildren, Kelby, Lilly, and Avery; sister in laws Zoe Sowers and Carol Smith; as well as several nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Smith and brother in law Leonard Sowers.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 11:00am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1515 Helen Ave, Portage, Michigan 49002, where visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00am. A time for food and fellowship will follow with interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South.
