David Van Hekken

David Van Hekken, age 60, of Grand Rapids, and formerly of Kalamazoo, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 17. He was the son of Neal and Mae Van Hekken. Through the years, he enjoyed participating in many different sports. He excelled in bowling and swimming winning gold medals at Special Olympics. He was a professing member of Plymouth Heights CRC, where he loved attending Friendship Ministries. He loved socializing with everyone he met. David was preceded in death by his father, Neal Van Hekken; niece, Kristin (Corstange) Lane; and great-nephew, Jaxon Brower. He is survived by his mother, Mae Van Hekken; siblings, John and Elsa Van Hekken, Marilyn and Ken Corstange, Jean and Dave Brower, Carol and John Huizer; 10 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and -nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 20, 2:00 PM, at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE), with Pastor Steve De Vries officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the chapel one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM. Private burial at Rest Lawn Memorial Park.
