Matheson, David 12/28/1958 - 12/23/2021 Nashville, Tennessee (formerly of Kalamazoo) Four months ago a combination of a serious back injury and liver disease created a health challenge from which David did not recover. Never without his sense of humor, when the ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital, he said to the driver, 'Could we stop at the clone store first, I need to pick up some new parts.' The son of Pamela Matheson (Mudd) and Henry Matheson, David was born in Bronson Hospital. He grew up in Kalamazoo and graduated from Portage Central High School in 1977. After high school David served in the U.S. Marine Corps 3rd Battalion 10th Marine Division as a radio operator. While serving, he used his leave to enjoy Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Spain, Puerto Rico, Barbados, and N. Yemen. He also went through the Suez Canal. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in history and archeology (1985). David spent several years employed at Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw, Michigan, where he developed special and lasting friendships. When Susan's profession relocated them to Houston, he worked for the University of Texas. As a result of the pandemic, Susan and David made one more move to Nashville, Tennessee. He was planning to retire in January. He is survived by his wife Susan (Musgrave), his sisters Laura (Norm) Hamann and Janet (Tim) LaVasseur, his father-in-law Bill Bell, his niece Andrea LaVasseur, and his nephews David LaVasseur and Wesley Musgrave. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, Susan and David shared the passion of rescuing animals. Memorials may be made to the Independent Cat Society, P.O. Box 735, Westville, IN 46391 or a Humane Society of your choice.
