Surrounded by her family, Connie Hubbell died peacefully December 10, 2025. Born December 21, 1933 to Mr & Mrs. E Grant Leaske of Kalamazoo, Connie thrived in Kalamazoo. At Kalamazoo Central she was a member of the Concert Choir, and was crowned Football Queen. Connie initially attended Oberlin College studying piano, but then changed her direction and found her calling. She pursued a nursing degree from the medical school of Northwestern University.
After attaining her degree Connie married her Kalamazoo sweetheart, Frederick Hubbell. After the wedding they left for Fred's army service in Yokohama, Japan. Connie served as a nurse in the US Army hospital. The couple's first child, Leslie, was born in Japan.
Upon returning stateside the couple resided in Ann Arbor where Fred earned his law degree, and Connie practiced nursing at the University of Michigan hospital. Their second child, Lynda was born at this time. After a move to Petosky the couple had their two final children, Andrew and John.
When the family returned permanently to Kalamazoo Connie began a 40 year nursing relationship with Bronson Hospital. Passionate about nursing, Connie began as a hall head nurse and in her last decade with Bronson she was in charge of nursing at the joint Upjohn - Bronson medical investigation unit.
Connie was involved with the Kalamazoo community as a board member of the Salvation Army, the Visiting Nurse association, and the new Friendship Village community.
Connie and her family enjoyed many years of traveling, and visiting at their cottage on Pine Lake. Connie was immensely loved, and will be sorely missed by children; Leslie, Lynda, Andrew, and John; eight grandchildren; and her brother Fred Leaske.
