Clayton Starkey

Clayton P. Starkey, age 78, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away Sunday evening, January 15, 2017 at the Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Clayton was born February 9, 1938 in St. Louis, MO the son of the late Newton and Mabel (Grisham) Starkey. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Clayton was employed for 30 years as a driver for Alvan Motor Freight and enjoyed bike riding and traveling. He also enjoyed meeting for breakfast at Poor Richards once a month with his group of friends from the service. Clayton was a member of the NRA, AMVETS, and the American Legion. Clayton was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; and brother and sister, Clayburn Starkey and Hazel Sullivan. On May 13, 2014 he was united in marriage to his wife Cheryl, who survives. Also surviving is his step-daughter, Connie (Adrian) Burke; a step grand-daughter, Amanda McDonald; 3 step great-grandchildren; sisters, Lena Woods, Zella Marler; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 23 at Haven Church, 5350 N. Sprinkle Rd. Friends may meet the family Monday from 10-11:00 am prior to the service. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery following a luncheon at church. Memorials may be directed to Shalom, Inc. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick.
