Life Story / Obituary
Christopher John Courtade of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday, August 9th, 2016. He was 56. Chris was born April 16th, 1960 to the late Leroy and Marilyn (Fuller) Courtade.
Chris grew up in Williamsburg, Michigan and graduated from Elk Rapids High School in 1978.
He attended NMC in Traverse city to study Machine Tool and Die. This led to a position as a Tool and Die Machinist at Traverse Precision in Williamsburg for 26 years until they closed. His most recent job was at SMI Aerospace in Traverse City. He was a dedicated employee who never missed work, even though he was a type 1 diabetic from a young age. When he became ill, SMI was wonderful to him and his family.
He was a kind and gentle man. He loved spending time with his family and friends,
hunting for morel mushrooms, walking in the woods with his dogs and sitting around a campfire
with friends. He was always the first to help someone out.
Chris married Helmi Vachon on August 14th, 1993 at Christ the King Church in Acme; she survives.
Chris lovingly raised his son and four stepsons, Zachary Lewis Courtade of Williamsburg, Edward Attee of Traverse City, Phillip Attee of Ann Arbor and Xavier Attee of Ann Arbor; brothers, David (Ruth) Courtade of Interlochen, Steve Courtade of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; sister, Deb Courtade Sternaman of Traverse City; many aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews whom he cherished.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Lewis and Marilyn Rae (Fuller) Courtade; brother, Michael Courtade, and sister, Lisa Courtade.
Chris' warm smile and silly jokes will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
