Whisman, Charles "Charlie" 11/4/1996 - 7/27/2022 Schoolcraft Charlie passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2022, at age 25. He was born November 4, 1996, a beautiful blessing to this world. In 1997, he was welcomed with overwhelming love and open arms by his adoptive parents Adah and Joseph Whisman of Schoolcraft. His contagious laugh and surviving spirit brought unbridled joy to the people in his world. Charlie Bear appreciated the simple things that most take for granted, like the companionship of a pet or a warm, enthusiastic greeting. He had a special place in his heart for his "Appa"; Charlie knew the love between father and son was truly a special gift. Charles was preceded in death by his grandparents, J. Edward and Nancy Whisman, his Uncle J. Edward Whisman, Jr., and his best friend and schoolmate, Billy. Billy and Charlie had similar disabilities, however as they meet again in Heaven, we know their bodies will be restored so they can make up for the miles they never got to run. Charlie is survived by his parents Adah and Joseph Whisman of Schoolcraft, MI; brothers, Pierce William Whisman of Schoolcraft, MI, and Tyler Whisman of Kalamazoo, MI; grandparents, Albert and Arlona McCallum of Springport, MI; uncles, William (Michele) Whisman of Vicksburg, MI, Daniel Whisman of Grand Haven, MI, Dave (Wendi) McCallum of Albion, MI, and Don (Sarah) McCallum of Cedarville, IA; nephew, Joseph Whisman of Kalamazoo; and several cousins, including Taylor Whisman of Kalamazoo, who served as his respite caretaker throughout the years. Special thanks to our police, fire, EMS, dispatch and Bronson ED family for your compassionate, dedicated work in Charlie's final moments and your continued support as the family heals. We also want to thank WoodsEdge Learning Center for providing Charlie with fun and friendship during his time at school. Charlie's family will receive guests from 4:00-6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th St, Kalamazoo MI 49009, where a brief memorial service will begin at 6:00 pm. Private placement of remains will take place at a later date. Charlie loved his kitties so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Animal Rescue Project 219 Peekstok Dr. Kalamazoo, MI 49001.
