Brotebeck, Charles B. 1/12/1931 - 8/4/2021 Portage, Michigan Bud passed away peacefully at home with his family on August 4, 2021. Son of Bernard and Anna Brotebeck, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia, children Michael, Mark (Susan) and Mary (John), grandchildren Ali (Parker), Anna and Zachary, great grandson Grayson, brother Robert (Mary), sister-in-law Judith, and several nieces and nephews. Bud graduated from Flint Central High School in 1949. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Western Michigan University where he lettered in both basketball and baseball. Bud was inducted into the WMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Flint Athletic Hall of fame in 2001. Upon college graduation, Bud was recruited by the Philadelphia Phillies minor league baseball organization where he played shortstop. He later served in the United States Army. Bud was a teacher serving Romeo Public Schools where he coached championship basketball and baseball teams. After moving to Kalamazoo in 1966, Bud worked in the Dean of Students office at WMU. In 1968 he became Assistant Principal at Portage Central Middle School where he worked until his retirement. A private family service will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
