Catherine Agnes Stasik (Katie) died Saturday, March 5, 2022, at her home at Storypoint of Portage. She was born August 4, 1931, in Bay City, Michigan, the youngest of Jess and Rose (Ray) Reynolds' seven children. Katie graduated from nurses' training in 1953, and in 1954 married the love of her life, Eugene, to whom she was married for 55 years. Katie worked full time until her retirement in 1986 from St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. With her support, her husband and three children earned degrees from the University of Michigan. Katie and her family loved the University of Michigan and attended all the home football games, enjoying many pregame tailgate parties and the frequent postgame races to get a table at Bimbo's. Hard-core fans, they travelled to an Orange Bowl and several Rose Bowl games. They attended occasional basketball games, and as devoted fans of Michigan's softball team, were thrilled when the women won the 2005 National Championship. They were members of the M Club of Ann Arbor for many years and enjoyed attending the club's luncheons with the coaches. Katie stayed busy after her retirement. She loved spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, reading, lounging by the pool, and sewing her KaGene quilts. Katie and Gene also enjoyed traveling, Aruba being one of their favorite destinations. After the death of her son Eugene Stasik, Jr., Katie moved to Storypoint Independent Living in Portage, MI, where she quickly made many new friends. She enjoyed the meals in the dining room, chatting with neighbors at the end of the hall, a knitting group, and "quarter bingo." Though all through her life she professed a dislike of cats, she even became friends with Buddy, a cat who lived down the hall! Katie was preceded in death by her husband Eugene in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her son Eugene Jr., granddaughter Amanda Mierzwa (Jason Matson), and siblings Martin, Herb, Charles, Jess, John, and Sally. She is survived by her daughters Sandy (Tom) George, Susan (Terry) Mierzwa, grandchildren Jessica (Tom) Ferri, Lauren George (Nathan Butcher), Maria George (Steve Miller), and Matthew George. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Centrica Rose Arbor and Storypoint of Portage for the excellent care they provided to both Katie and her family during the last few months. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Thursday, March 24th at St. Catherine of Siena in Portage. Visitation will take place at the church at 10 a.m. with a funeral Mass following at 11 a.m. There will be a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Centrica Hospice Care Rose Arbor. Arrangements entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th St, Kalamazoo MI 49009.
