89, of Niles, formerly of Kalamazoo passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Brentwood Assisted Living. She was born on November 6, 1930 in Geneva, Chicago to the late Marold D. and Rose M. (Robinson) Adair. Carol was raised in Dearborn and East Jordan, Michigan, graduating from East Jordan High School in 1948. She attended nursing training at Michael Reese Teaching Hospital in Chicago, achieving her Registered Nurse certification in 1952. She worked at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. On June 6, 1953 Carol wed Thomas Houser at a ceremony at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After settling in Kalamazoo in 1965, Carol worked at Borgess Hospital in the new-born ward and later in private practice, in pediatrics. She had a love for bowling, Bridge, and knitting. She kept on the knitting of personal Christmas stockings, a family tradition, for her children's spouses and grandchildren. After retirement, Carol and Tom enjoyed traveling the world, enjoying snorkeling and swimming during their many trips. Carol loved many types of music, musical theater and listening to her children and grandchildren perform. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard and Douglas Adair. Carol is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Thomas Houser of Niles; her children, Kenneth (Kathryn) Houser of Ann Arbor, Judith (Gregory) Hill of Niles, Brian Houser of Cheney, Washington and Janet (Christopher) Fuhrmeister of Randolph, Vermont; four grandchildren. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan. A private inurnment will be held in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol's memory to the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra, 714 S. Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49007 or St. Luke's Episcopal Church-Choir Fund, 247 W. Lovell Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49007 or the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Ann Arbor, 1600 Washington Heights, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104.
