"Robert 'Bob' John Overbeck" of Kalamazoo, MI went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday, February 22, 2020. Bob was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin March 24, 1924, the son of Arthur and Nellie Overbeck. He graduated from Sheboygan North High School and then attended Calvin College and Davenport College where he received his accounting degree. He was a member of Third Christian Reformed Church, where he served on Council as both an Elder and Deacon. He was a member of Jaycees, Kiwanis, and American Legion. He served on the board of YMCA, Camp Roger, and also volunteered for the Kalamazoo Christian Schools at Second Impressions. He married Ruth (Klosterman) Overbeck on July 2, 1948; who preceded him in death in 2017. He is survived by their children, John (Carol) Overbeck of Seattle, WA; Nancy (Paul) Malefyt of Grosse Pointe, MI; Edward (Jan) Overbeck of Hickory Corners, MI; and James (Lynne) Overbeck of Beulah, MI; twelve grandchildren, Melissa, Christina, Tim, Scott, John, Jim, Bob, Sarah, Mitch, Lee, Erika and Jake; twelve great-grandchildren. Bob is survived by one sister, Carol LaBotz, and sister-in-law Mary (Klosterman) Hahn. At the age of 18, Bob joined the Navy to serve in World War II with his only brother Eddie; who was killed during the war. Bob fought and survived Omaha Beach on D-Day. He worked for John C Klosterman Company, eventually becoming the President of Klosterman Vending (Servomation). Later, he was the owner of Overbeck's Kalamazoo Implement which he operated until his retirement in 1984. Bob valued time spent with his friends and family. There was always a reason for celebrating, and he shared his gift of hospitality with many. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed deer hunting and being with his deer camp friends. He enjoyed gardening and excelled at growing tomatoes which he abundantly shared with family and friends. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, February 26th from 10:00am to 11:00am, preceding the service which will be at 11:00am at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49008, with Dr. Dirk W. VanderSteen officiating. Light lunch will be served immediately following in the fellowship center. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery.
