Betty Thurman

Betty I. Thurman (Ganzel) was born on July 13, 1926, and was raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She passed away the day before her 98th birthday on July 12, 2024. She was the daughter of Charles E. and Edna L. Ganzel. Betty was united in marriage on August 6, 1974, to the love of her life, John ("Jack") W. Thurman, who preceded her in death in January 2002. Jack and Betty enjoyed many wonderful years together. They owned and operated the Beacon Club in Kalamazoo, MI, until they retired to Park Shore Towers in Naples, Florida in September of 1997. Also preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers Charles (Buck), Robert and Jack, her son Thomas J. Remaley, and her grandson Marc E. Remaley. She is survived by her stepdaughters Terri L. (Wayne) Martin and Sandra K. (James Magnan) Berish-Magnan, three grandchildren, Dawn M. (Remaley) Schwab, Stephanie Lind (Berish) Eckley (John) and Joseph John Berish (Erin) as well as five great grandchildren, Arianna Schwab, Abram and Willson Eckley, and Hudson and Marina Jane Berish. It was her wish that she be cremated, and her ashes be interred with those of her husband's at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
