Died Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Bronson Commons. Arlen was born April 25, 1931 in Kalamazoo, the son of Raymond H. and Alice C. (Bradeen) Winther. He attended Oakwood school and was a graduate of Western State High School and Western Michigan University. Except for being drafted by the US Army, Arlen was a lifelong residence of Oakwood and Mattawan. He started and operated a succession of businesses over the last 50 years in those communities. Arlen was involved in Antwerp Township and Van Buren County government and served as Antwerp Township Supervisor for 14 years. Arlen was a Quaker (Society of Friends) and a charter member of the Askeladden Lodge of the Sons of Norway. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larkin Winther, sister Jacquelyne L. White, and a brother-in-law Darl L. White. He is survived by a sister-in-law Elizabeth (Betty) Winther, five nieces and nephews and their spouses, many grand nieces and nephews and cousins. At his request cremation has taken place. Arlen has requested that his memory be honored in your individual way. Memorial donations may be made to the Alice & Raymond Winther Memorial Fund at the Van Buren District Library, 200 N. Phelps Street, Decatur, MI 49045 or the charity of your choice.
