Went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday afternoon, November 22, 2019 at her home. Angelyn was born July 28, 1927 in Holland, MI the daughter of the late Wilbert and Tillie (VanderPloeg) VanAppledorn. She attended Holland Christian School and Calvin College. She taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade in the Comstock Christian School and was a longtime member of Third Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed art, poetry, classical music, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family. Angelyn was a board member of several organizations including the Kalamazoo Symphony League, Fontana Chamber Arts and the Kalamazoo Bach Society. She also was a volunteer with the Kalamazoo Christian Schools. On June 10, 1948 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Herman who preceded her in death on June 8, 2019. She was also preceded in death by a brother and 2 sisters, Chester VanAppledorn, Evelyn Oostendorp, and Irene Martinus. Angelyn is survived by her children, Dr. Daniel (Lori) VanHamersveld, Mary Vlietstra, Steven (L'Tanya) VanHamersveld, David (Susan) VanHamersveld, Debra (Rob) Gray; 11 grandchildren, Kristine (Joe) Forderer, Mark (Erin) Vlietstra, Scott (Jenn) Vlietstra, Holly (Jeff) Diebel, Kevin Alphenaar, Kurt Alphenaar, Lisa (Todd) Heeter, Julie (Andy) Kiel, Eric (Jill) VanHamersveld, Dawn (Aubrey) Maderies, Tamiko Van Hamersveld; two step-grandchildren; Gregory ( Jennifer) Hill and Bethany (Ryan) Mitchell; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Third Christian Reformed Church of Kalamazoo, 2400 Winchell Ave with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Baker officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Private family interment will be in Mt. Home Cemetery in Kalamazoo.
