Wilson, Amy Beloved wife, mother, and 'Gran', Amy Wilson passed away May 24th, at the age of 72. She was a talented cross-stitching master, teacher, volunteer, blogger, painter, and aficionado of all things sweet. She was also a cherished friend to many cross-stitching friends around the world, and a member of the Detroit Sewing Guild. Amy created hundreds of artistic pieces during her life, including 631 completed cross-stitching projects and 23 large canvases. She kept her creations in four wall-sized display cabinets around the house, and her personal sewing room, which was a dedicated place where a stitcher could have everything she wanted. She enjoyed posting about her projects on her blog, where she had a passionate following – but always humble and courageous in taking on hard projects and admitting her mistakes. Amy always carried her enormous bag full of cross-stitching gear everywhere she went, and would never be caught without candy, especially her favorite chocolate-covered orange peels, gumdrops, taffy, Red Hots, and more. She was also an accomplished painter, and had several showings and sales of her still-life paintings in her favorite medium, watercolor. She loved children, and was a certified teacher, volunteering and teaching for years across several Montessori schools throughout the Portage area. She fervently believed in the Montessori teaching approach and sent both her sons to Montessori as well. After she stopped teaching, she volunteered her time with at-risk youth to help their reading skills and graduate. Amy earned a masters in Psychology from Illinois State University in 1971, where she was the Assistant Director of Testing. She is survived by her husband, Stuart, children Scott and Glenn, grandchildren Claire and Evan, sisters Karen and Celia, and mother Marjorie. She will be dearly missed.
