Alida K. Newman, age 92, passed away Thursday morning April 16, 2015. Alida was born in Racine on October 14, 1922, daughter of the late Cornelius and Deborah (nee: Larson) Carlson.

She was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1940”. On January 15, 1944, Alida was united in marriage to Lyle Jensen, who was killed in December of 1944 in World War II. On July 10, 1948, she married Thomas Richard “TR” Newman, who preceded her in death on February 11, 1984. Alida was a lifelong member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church. In her younger years, she was employed with Hamilton Beach and after her children were grown, she worked at the Children’s Corner. She also volunteered with the women’s auxiliary at St. Luke’s Hospital. In her spare time, Alida enjoyed golfing, and loved playing bridge with her friends in her various bridge clubs. Above all, it was her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren that gave her the most joy.

Alida will be dearly missed by her daughter, Sandra Jensen (Ronald) Johnson of Burlington and her grandchildren, Cary and Susie Johnson, great grandchildren, Brody, TY, Josie, Curt, and Michelle Johnson, great grandchildren, Grant, Blake, Elise, Magen, Kyle and Carrie Johnson; daughter, Marcia Newman of Racine, and her grandchildren, Gavin Larson, her great great grandchildren, Jolie and Lillie, her son Tom Newman of Racine, her son Steven Newman of Ashbury, CT and her grandchildren, Michael Newman and Debbie Newman; sister, Debbie Bertinusen of Alexander, ND; special friend, Jan Miller; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Kathryn (Carl) Albeck, Arnold (Elizabeth) Carlson, Earl (Carlotta) Carlson, Margaret (Ralph) Frances, Belmont Carlson, Kenneth Carlson; and brother-in-law, Barney Bertinusen.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April, 21, 2015. 11:00 A.M. at the funeral Home with Rev. Mark Doidge officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for visitation on Tuesday at 10:00 until time of service. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy. 32.
