Jeremy Smeltzer

Died April 16, 2014 as a result of an auto accident, he was 29. Jeremy was born June 27, 1984 in Kalamazoo to Jerry and Ginger (Evarts) Smeltzer. He was united in marriage to Jennifer VanKersen on June 13, 2009, who survives. Jeremy enjoyed making people laugh, time with his dogs (Ender and Newton), hockey, fishing, and time with his wife and family. He loved reading, writing, singing too loud and making up stories. He was a pure joy to be around. Jeremy is survived by his wife, Jennifer Smeltzer of Portage; parents, Jerry (Ginger) Smeltzer; sister, Andrea (Craig) Schumacher; brother, Steven (Jess Caron) Smeltzer; father-in-law, Todd (Cindy) VanKersen; mother-in-law, Liz (Steve) Douville; brother-in-law, Todd (Jennifer) VanKersen; nieces and nephews, Ciarra and Bryce VanKersen and Mara Schumacher; grandparents and several cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Family will greet friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and again on Tuesday from 12-1 PM, just prior to the celebration of life service which begins at 1:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Kalamazoo Optimists Hockey Association (KOHA).
