Robert Desness

Robert E. Desness, age 89, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Sebring, FL. Mr. Desness was born in Kalamazoo, MI on October 9, 1924 to Edward J. and Lottie Bell (Misner) Desness. Mr. Desness was a mechanic for Consumer's Power Company, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, 11th Airborne Division Association, he was a Parachute Rigger, a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Avon Park Lakes Association, member of the First Presbyterian Church and had been a resident of Avon Park since 1982 coming from Kalamazoo, MI. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Desness of Avon Park, FL; daughter, Donita Rassmussen of Delton, MI; sons, Roderick Desness (Linda) of Richland, MI, Robert Desness, Jr. (Cindy) of Delton, MI; sister, Carolyn White of Cottonwood, AZ; six grandchildren, Stephanie Desness, Casey Desness, Christy Desness, Tracey Stonefield, Jennifer Gilliam, Christopher Rasmussen and many great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 2014 from 10-11 AM at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home with funeral service to begin at 11 AM with Pastor Bob Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 12:30 PM.
