The memories are many, the sadness alot. I never knew a kinder person. Hes' in the great dojo in the ski now, drinking wine--don't have rum there, waiting for us togather again, to be one again, but until that time, I will miss him.

I am one of the lucky ones as space alloted here would not allow for all of the memories. They will certanly stay with me for the rest of my life.
I believe that as long as we who knew and loved this man keep our meories of him, his passing will not be that of death, but rather a tempopary separation until we meet again.

I saw Bert when he was up in the Detroit Area last Spring. I told him then, and I repeat now,
the years I spent studying Isshen Ryu Karate with him and Sensie Bartley were among the best years of my life. I started at age 47 and stopped in my mid 60's having reached 2nd Degree Black Belt. He was a great teacher and a kind, giving man though he would have you think he was tough. I am so glad I saw him last Spring.
