APPLEGATE, STEPHEN HUNTER Stephen Hunter Applegate, May 1, 1955 - January 31, 2012. At daybreak, on January 31st, our loving husband, son, brother, uncle and dear friend was released from his suffering into the arms of the Lord. His profound faith that a new journey was about to begin brought solace to us all. When we bid him Godspeed he was wearing a favorite Caribbean blue island-style shirt; his pockets were filled with dog biscuits. Steve is survived by his bride of 25 years, Julie Curtis Applegate; his parents, Susanne Hartman Applegate, E. Brooks Applegate II; siblings, E. Brooks Applegate III and Martha Applegate Schonberger (Lawrence); and nieces and nephews, Marnee, Jeff, Rocky, Margaret, Brooks IV, Ben, Samuel, Harrison, Kara, Malia, Maggie and Zach. Steve was a Woodcliff Squirrel, a graduate of East Grand Rapids High School, attended Fort Lewis College and completed his education at Jordan Energy Institute. Steve was an outstanding cook, an avid skier and enjoyed competition barbecue. He was most at home "simply messing about in boats." Steve suggested that donations be made to White Lake Yacht Club Sailing School, where children are inspired to pursue his passion for sailing. White Lake Sailing School, P.O. Box 454, Whitehall, MI 49461. Portage Lake friends may choose to donate to North Point Park, where Steve and his dog, Luna, began many a fine summer morning. Onekama Township, 5435 Main Street, Onekama, MI 49675. Please specify the donation for North Point Park. A Celebration of Steve's Life will be held on Friday, February 10th at Frederik Meijer Gardens. A visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. followed by a service at 2:00 P.M. Additionally, this summer, there will be a Memorial Service at the Wabaningo Club on Sylvan Beach.
