Gordon Wallace Cota, 88, died October 1, 2011 at home. He was born, son of Willis and Mildred (Arnold) Cota on February 24, 1923 in Big Rapids. Gordon was born at home on old US 13. He attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from High School in Big Rapids. He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II. He worked as a machinist for E.W. Bliss in Hastings for 30 years and retired in 1980. Gordon married Edna M. Wurm on January 18, 1942, she died in 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his son, Glenn F. Cota, PhD in 2004; and brother, Glenn F. Cota in 1945. He is survived by son, Jerry (Carole) Cota of Holly; daughters Sandra Rose of Battle Creek and Janis White of Richland; grandson and caretaker, Scott Rose of Battle Creek; 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother Geroge Marshall Cota; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Cota of Norfolk, Virginia. Gordon was a member of the Graham Lake Association and AARP. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling; most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Special thanks to the Oaklawn Hospice Team and "Little Bo Peep." Services will take place 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 11th at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Pastor William Cole, officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Estate of Gordon Cota. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home.
