Duane Lavern Packer Sr. passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on May 31, 1936 to Glenn Packer and Maude (Scanlen) Packer. He has been a resident of this area most of his life. He was employed at Central Iron and Metal from 1961-1976 as a crane operator and truck driver. From 1976-1988 he worked for Knolls Heating and Cooling as a crew leader and installer. Duane was also the founder of Packer Rentals. In 1958 he married Ethel S. (Manwarren) Packer, she survives. He is also survived by his son, Duane L. Packer Jr. (Teresa). Also surviving are two siblings, William Packer and Barbara (Packer) Holt of Daytona, Florida. He was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna (Packer) Bozarth of Coloma, Michigan. He is survived by two grandchildren, Rose Manwarren (Arnold) and Shawn Duane Packer, both of Battle Creek. Duane was also the proud great-grandfather of two great-grandsons, Zachariah and Collyn. Duane enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with his family and friends. He also enjoyed listening to his country western music. Duane was very fond of his dog, Pugs. A memorial service will be held in honor of his life on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 1 p.m. at his residence. The family would like to thank Lifespan/Hospice for all your help and assistance.
