John "Scott" Whitman

Died unexpectedly on February 8, 2010 while walking his beloved dog in Milham Park. Scott was born on September 25, 1953 in Battle Creek, MI the son of John A. and Betty (Hill) Whitman. Scott was a Veteran having served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked for KPH for 32 years. He was Union President for A.F.S.C.M.E. local 652 and on the Executive Board of council 25 he also was involved in the Democratic Party. Scott was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Joan Bryers whom he married July 19, 1991; three step children: Torrey (John) Wenger of Kalamazoo, Devon (Tinessa) Moss of Chicago and Courtney McCaul of Kalamazoo; His mother, Betty Whitman of Kalamazoo; a brother, William Marcus Whitman of Kalamazoo; a sister, Joanna (John) Maring of Lawton; five grandchildren: Neil Wenger, Holden McCann, Zachary McCann, Duncan Moss and Truman Moss; two nieces: Melissa Whitman and Narcissa Maring; a nephew, Steven (Amanda) Maring; a great niece, Emma Maring and his good dog Dizzy. Family and friends will be received on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at REDMOND Funeral Home 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008. Where Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 13, 2010. Refreshments will follow in the hospitality room of the Funeral Home.
