Robert Olsen

OLSEN - Robert Gail Olsen, age 53, of Manistee, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor. Robert was born July 25, 1956 in Lakeview to Gail and Esther Olsen. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1974. After high school he received his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from CMU. He married Kathy Tait on November 27, 1980 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hubbardston. He enjoyed photography, reading and carving. Robert was currently the Superintendent for the Manistee Area Public Schools. He was a former teacher for the Carson City School District and camp director for many years at the UAW Family Education Center at Black Lake. He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Manistee; two children, Stephanie Olsen and Greg Olsen both of Manistee; mother, Esther Olsen of Lakeview; sister, Debra (William) Miner of Traverse City. Also mother-in-law, Helen Tait of Hubbardston; sisters-in-law, Sharon Tait of Oxford, Sue (Dan) Findlay of St. Johns; brother-in-law, Bob Tait of Woodland; special cousin, Rhoda Kluge of Falls Church, VA; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his father, Gail and father-in-law, Virgil Tait. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held at the Church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Cadillac. A Memorial Service will also be held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Manistee High School Gymnasium.
