Obituary
BRANDSMA - Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Brandsma, age 89, of Grand Rapids (formerly of Tucson, Arizona), went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 13, 2009. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; his son, Daniel; and by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marian and Guy King, Ann and Clarence Bos, Pauline and Claire Bettys, Florence and William Brus, and Sally and Al Kooi. He leaves behind his grand-daughter, Alana Bender; great-granddaughter, Brianna Bender; several loving nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Jerry proudly served his country during World War II as a radio operator on a B-17 in the European Theatre. After the war, Jerry was a teacher in Grand Rapids before residing in Tucson, Arizona for 56 years where he was a teacher, counselor, and a pilot. He enjoyed helping others and was a man with great faith. Jerry flew in Arizona and surrounding areas on rescue missions for other downed aircraft. According to Jerry's wishes, cremation has taken place.
