Lucille Derks

DERKS (FREMONT) - Mrs. Lucille Derks, age 77, passed away on Sunday morning, August 9, 2009 at Fountain View Retirement Village in Grant after a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. She was born on May 18, 1932 in Fremont, Michigan to Henry and Hattie (Sall) Scott. Before she became a full time mother and house wife, Lucille was employed by Michigan Bell as a manager and phone operator. She was a member of the Bye-Bells, and First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont. In her retirement, Lucille enjoyed traveling and making new friends. On September 30, 1953 she married Weldon J. Derks and he preceded her in death on January 24, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her brothers; Harold, Wes, Raymond, and Howard Scott; and by her sister, Doris Meyers. Survivors include four children; Scott (Deborah) Derks of Rockford, MI., David Derks of Fremont, Karen (Scott) Diekema of Fremont, Danelle (Hans) Nelson of Newaygo; seven grandchildren, Joey and Megan Sweet, Alyssa Derks, Sam and Hannah Derks, Annika and Colton Nelson; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont (721 Hillcrest Drive) with Pastor Case Admiraal officiating. There will be a time of visiting with the family at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
