John William Gieseler died at home Monday, January 14, 2008 in the care of his son, Michael B. Wellborn M.S.W., Marquette, and younger daughter, Nancy Gieseler Devor M.Div., Ph.D. (Dick), Hanover, N.H. John's family also includes: Ann Bryan Nelson M.L.S. (Jerry), Sun City West, AZ; grandchildren, Ross E. Bryan 4th M.D. (Sarah Jump, M.D.), Portland, OR, Adam John Bryan EN2-USS Shiloh, Japan (Mayumi Ito Bryan) and one great-grandchild, Alice Anna Bryan; two living brothers, Herman Gieseler, Midland and Lawrence (Helen) Gieseler, Jackson, and five May brothers and sisters-in-law, and their families. John was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Alice (May) Gieseler, older brother, Oscar Delmar Gieseler, and parents, John H. and Susan Luanna Gieseler, Barryton. John was a Merchant Marine, worked at McInerney Spring & Wire, sold El Ectro Lux Vacuums, and cut meat for area meat markets and Kroger stores in Lansing and Grand Rapids. John will be remembered for his ability to fix anything, to build with precision, his inquisitiveness and love of travel, and his willingness to help others. A service celebrating John's life will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4301 Ambrose Ave. N.E., Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or Hospice of Michigan.
