Edward H. Rigel Sherwood Twp., MI June 8, 1936- March 22, 2008 Edward H. Rigel, 71, of Sherwood Township, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Battle Creek Veteran's Affairs Medical Center. He was born June 8, 1936, in Battle Creek, the son of Harold E. and Dorothy (Stevens) Rigel. Ed was a 1954 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School where he participated in football and wrestling. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1953 to 1965. Ed was previously employed by Eaton Manufacturing for 16 years, Forbes-Cohen Properties, as maintenance supervisor, for 4 years, and by the Kellogg Company for 8 years. He retired from Holbrook, Inc, in Coldwater, in 2001. Ed enjoyed bowling, playing pool and cards, and golfing. He married the former Janice A. Lawrence on May 1, 1959. She survives him. He is also survived by his sons, Edward Rigel Jr. of Lexington, KY, Thomas (Tammy) Rigel of Battle Creek, Gary (Elvie) Rigel of Burlington, and Mike, Roger, and Randy Rigel, all of Battle Creek. He also leaves his mother, Dorothy Stanfield; sisters, Vivian Brown and Eunice Skidmore; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his two stepbrothers, Norman (Vickie) Post and James (Anne) Stanfield. He was preceded in death by his father and stepbrothers, Bernard and Larry Post. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Royal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm, Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Royal Funeral Home.Memorial contributions may be given to the Battle Creek VA Medical Center: Patient Activities Fund.
