LaVern Harmsen, age 79, of Burnips, went to be with his Lord Thursday, January 3, 2008, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandy; son Phillip and granddaughter, Jennifer. He was a member of Burnips Wesleyan Church and served on the board for more than 30 years. He was employed at the Hudsonville Creamery for 43 years and was the assistant fire chief for Salem Township for 38 years.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth; children, Wayne and Linda Harmsen of Bentheim, Melanie and Bob Post of Bentheim and Scott and Jean Harmsen of Bristol, RI; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Joyce Ulberg of Hudsonville, Cliff and Bonnie Harmsen of Burnips and Thelma Weick of Hopkins; in-laws, Harv Bleeker of Bentheim, John Rynbrandt of Burnips, Earl and Arlene Kleinheksel of Hamilton, Dick and Doris Miller of Wayland and Harv and Laura Veldhuis of Zeeland.
Funeral services will be 1:00 Monday at the Burnips Wesleyan Church with the Reverends William Osborne and Steve Jones officiating. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State St, Zeeland. Burial will be in Salem Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services.
