Vertie Mae (Shook) Taylor

Mrs. Vertie Mae (Shook) Taylor, age 75, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2007 in Muskegon. She was born in Avery County, NC on February 5, 1932 to Donald B. and Ina Beulah (Oakes) Jones and had been a resident of Muskegon for 54 years. Vertie owned and operated Vertie's Beauty Shoppe for 53 years. She is survived by 3 children, Floyd (Lauri) Shook, Peggy (Dewayne) Derby, Kathy (Raul) Melgoza; 8 step-children, Roger (Rose Mary) Kolar, Darlene Melgoza, Terry (Patty) Kolar, Jim (Nancy) Kolar, Bob (Diane) Taylor, Ed (Diane) Taylor, Tommy Taylor, John (Dianna) Taylor; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 3 sisters all of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by 3 husbands; Harlon Shook, Kenneth Kolar, Harold Taylor and 3 brothers. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00AM Friday at The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Rev. David A. Selleck officiating.
