Thomas G. Huizinga, aged 75, of Ridgefield, husband of Betty (Moelker), died on Thursday afternoon, November 9, 2006 at his home. Tom's soul left his suffering, cancer-ridden body and is now at home with the Lord. "The perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality. Where O Death is your victory, Where O Death is your sting? Thanks be to God! He has given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." Tom was born October 5, 1931 in Grand Rapids, son of John and Dorothy (Herrema) Huizinga. He enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict and was stationed for most of his service in Anchorage, Alaska. Tom held a Master Plumber's License in the state of Michigan. After moving to Connecticut in 1981, he held the Unlimited Plumbing and Fire Protection Contractor's licenses. In 1985, with his two sons, Ted and John, and wife, Betty, he founded Eastern Mechanical Services, a plumbing, HVAC, and sprinkler contracting business. Tom sang 25 years with The King's Choraliers Male Chorus of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by a brother, Teddy; and sister Julia Harkes. Surviving Tom are his beloved family; his wife of 51 years, Betty; children, Ted (Carol), Anne (David) Fielstra, John (Amye); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Ted and Carol's children, Tom (Sharon) Huizinga, and Michael Huizinga; Dave and Anne's children and grandchildren, Melanie (Nathan) Christner with Cade, Jack, Maggie; Erika (Austin) Morrison with Gabriel, Seth, Jude, Tyler (Brittany) Fielstra with Ezra, John and Amye's children, Kimber, Kristy, Kelley, Luke, Russell, Emma, Caleb, Noah Huizinga; brothers, Jim (Holly) Huizinga, Marvin (Carolynn) Huizinga, Donald (Lucy) Huizinga, Bill (Donna) Huizinga; sisters, Mary (Jim) Haagsma, Rev. Margaret (Rev. Ron) Vredeveld, Lucille (Don MD) Kuiper; sisters-in-law, Muriel Moelker, Yvonne Pylman, Jeanne (Jay) Roosien; brother-in-law, Edward Harkes; many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 17 at First Christian Reformed Church, Bates and Henry SE, with Rev. Marvin Beelen officiating. Interment in Blain Cemetery.
