Died June 13, 2006 at home. She was born July 28, 1936 the daughter of Ruth and Herbert Marshall in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from North High School in Des Moines. Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Diane Place and her partner Charles Chapman of Ceresco, Linda (Fred Jr.) Shouldice of Battle Creek; son, Matt (Cynthia) Carstens of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Steven Place and Megan Place of Ceresco, Brandon Shouldice, Katlyn Cartstens, Scott Carstens and Abigail Carstens, all of Battle Creek; and many special friends in Florida and Michigan. Marilyn was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Laureate Gamma Zeta Chapter 2863, the Gull Lake Area Community Church. She was a former board member of Emily Andrus Foster Care Home and served as a Battle Creek City Commissioner in the mid 1980's. She volunteered her time with both Emily Andrus Home and her church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading, going to the Barn Theatre and time with her sorority friends and friends in Florida. But her favorite was time spent with her grandkids. Friends may call from 2 until 4:00 p.m. and 6 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Shaw Funeral Home and from 10 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Gull Lake Area Community Church. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church, Pastor Todd Ter Avest, officiating. Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to Emily Andrus Home or Gull Lake Area Community Church 9292 E-CD Ave, Richland, MI 49083. The family is being served by SHAW FUNERAL HOME 2838 Capital Ave, S.W. Battle Creek.
