Georgia Kraai, age 78, died at the Laurels of Sandy Creek on May 11, 2006. She was born February 22, 1928, in Martin, to Earl & Sarah (Hixson) Rantz. Georgia lived in Martin her whole life, and graduated from Martin High School in 1945. She attended WMU for 1 year before marrying Bernie Kraai on January 24, 1947. Georgia worked for several years as a self-employed income tax preparer, 16 years as the Martin Township Clerk, and 8 years as the Township Treasurer. Her life's work was her family. She was a wonderfully attentive mother to her two sons. Georgia was also a loving wife to Bernie, and gave great support to him while he ran his own business Kraai Well Drilling. She was a smart game player, talented seamstress, and excellent golfer, which she exhibited on several leagues at Orchard Hills Golf Course. Her family includes her husband of 59 years Bernie Kraai of Martin; sons: Richard Kraai of Delton and Ronald & Denise Kraai of Gun Lake; grandchildren: Chad & Jessica Kraai and Shana & Steve Dam; great-grandchildren: Mikaela, Emilia, & Kiera Dam; and sister Marion & Ian Brown of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Robert, Roland, & Doris. Following Georgia's wishes she has been cremated and will be buried in a private family service at a later date at East Martin Cemetery.
