Bert Albertus Byker

Byker, Bert (Albertus) Jenison Age 85, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 29, 2015. Bert proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a 38 year retiree from Steelcase and also worked part-time selling shoes. Bert enjoyed a 60+ year career of pitching both fast and slow-pitch softball, and was an avid golfer. Bert loved Silver Lake, and spent 42 summers vacationing there with his family. A charter member of 12th Ave. CRC, Bert served as both deacon and elder. He and Marian enjoyed traveling extensively in the US and Mexico. Bert was preceded in death by his son, Roger; and granddaughter, Hanna Rae Bylsma. He will be lovingly remembered by his loving and faithful wife of 62 years, Marian; children, Ron (Gayle) Byker, Mary (Bill) Oosterbaan, Jan (Mike) Orcutt, Randy Byker, Sandy (Dan) Brummel, Sharon (Dan) Bylsma; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Byker; 24 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Kay Hamstra, Don (Winnie) Byker, Will (Mary Jane) Byker, Harry (Joan) Byker; sister-in-law, Henrietta Byker; brother-in-law, Carl (Shirley) Kleymeer; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday 11 AM at Twelfth Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 7581 12th Avenue, Jenison with Rev. James Evenhouse officiating. Interment Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 1-4 and 6:30-8:30 PM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW and on Monday from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the church.
